Dr. Michelle M. Kelman, or Dr. Michelle as her patients know her, has always had a unique interest in the well being of children. A specialist in pediatric dentistry, she is dedicated to providing exceptional oral health care in a caring, positive, and fun environment.
A native Californian, Dr. Michelle received her bachelor’s of science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and her doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Southern California.
Upon graduating USC Dental School, she was awarded the USC Behavioral Dentistry Award for Outstanding Humanistic Qualities in the Treatment of Patients and a Pediatric Dentistry Award for Outstanding Achievement in Pediatric Dentistry.
Following dental school, she received her specialty training in Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in association with the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Her postdoctoral training focused on the growth and development of healthy and medically complex infants, children, and individuals with special needs in both a clinical and hospital setting.
Along with treating pediatric patients in private practice in the Cedars Sinai Medical Office Towers, Dr. Michelle is on the Pediatric Surgical Team at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In the operating room, she performs general anesthesia oral rehabilitation cases on very young children with Early Childhood Caries, medically compromised children whose condition has affected their oral health, and treats children prior to transplant surgeries and cardiac surgery, to optimize the dental condition.
Having surgical privileges at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center provides the opportunity to coordinate multidisciplinary cases with other pediatric surgical specialists as well. Additionally, Dr. Michelle provides consults as needed for in-house patients in the hospital. She enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge with her colleagues at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Michelle has lectured internationally and taught continuing education courses on topics including pediatric patient behavior management and advancements in pediatric dentistry. These advancements include everything from equipment technology to introducing complementary and alternative therapies for your child’s health needs. Dr. Michelle and her team attend monthly meetings and training seminars to consistently offer the most conservative and latest treatment options.
She has lectured to many different medical disciplines from behavioral pediatricians to cardiologists around the country and internationally from Monterey, Mexico to Moscow, Russia. Dr. Michelle’s goal has always been to advocate on behalf of the pediatric patient and make sure that children receive the best care in the most positive way.
Dr. Michelle is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity.
On her days off, Dr. Michelle enjoys spending her time with her husband and their two children, who like her, sing along to Classic Rock songs, dance to Old School Hip Hop, and constantly have sand in their shoes!
